NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Petra Kvitova continued a solid tune-up for the U.S. Open Friday with an easy victory that put her in the championship match of the New Haven Open.

Kvitova, seeded third in this tournament and ranked ninth in the world, posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Klara Zakopalova to set up a title showdown with Simona Halep.

Halep surprised No. 4 seed Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 7-5.

Kvitova will be seeking her second championship of the season, having won in Dubai over Sara Errani. She also reached the finals of a tournament in Poland before losing to Roberta Vinci.

At next week's U.S. Open, Kvitova will be seeded seventh and will meet Misaki Doi in the opening round.

Halep has had a breakout season in 2013 with tournament wins in the Netherlands, Germany and Hungary. She reached the semifinals in Rome before losing to Serena Williams.

Kvitova and Halep will be meeting for the first time.
