SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan and his wife Amy divorced in an unusual hearing before a Texas state district judge, the judge said.

Judge David A. Canales later said the hearing was held during his lunch hour at the office of Tim Duncan's lawyer, Sue Hall, at her request. The couple was present, as were their lawyers.

Court observers said they saw the request as unusual, since so-called "home visits" by judges are not normally available to the general public, the San Antonio express-News said Wednesday.

Canales said it was the first time he was requested to hold an on-the-record, off-site hearing.

"I don't see it as doing a special favor for the sake of a favor. These folks were involved in a very private matter. It was mainly for privacy," Canales said.

Details of the divorce, including custody of the Duncans' two children, were not released.
