Weeden won the start over veteran Jason Campbell, Browns Coach Rob Chudzinski said.
"I've always believed in guys earning things," Chudzinski said. "He's gone out and he's earned it. He's seized the opportunity and I'm very pleased."
In two pre-season games this year Weeden has completed 18-of-25 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns. He wasn't intercepted. Cleveland scored either a touchdown or a field goal on five of his six series on the field.
Campbell hit 18-of-21 passes for 143 and one score in his pre-season games.
The Browns were 5-11 last season with Weeden, in his first season out of Oklahoma State, completing 57.4 percent of his passes for 3,385 yards and 14 touchdowns. However, he was intercepted 17 times.
Campbell was a first-round choice in the 2005 draft and has played for Washington, Oakland and Chicago before joining Cleveland. He started 71 of the 77 NFL games in which he's played, completing 60.9 percent of his passes for 14,682yards, 76 touchdowns and 52 interceptions.
