ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Angels slugger Albert Pujols has been put on the disabled list for the rest of the season with a foot injury, the team said Monday.

An exam revealed Pujols -- who has struggled to a career-low .258 average this season while being plagued by the injury -- has a tear in the plantar fascia in his left foot, the Angels said.

The three-time National League MVP first baseman has not played since July 26.

Pujols, 33, has 17 homers and 64 RBI in 99 games this season, his second with Los Angeles after coming from the St. Louis Cardinals in a free-agent signing.
