NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Germany's Sabine Lisicki opened first-round play at the New Haven Open Sunday with a straight-set victory over France's Kristina Mladenovic.

The seventh-seeded Lisicki dominated Mladenovic 7-5, 6-1 in a 69-minute match at Yale University, kicking off the U.S. Open tune-up event.

Their match was the only main-draw battle Sunday at the Connecticut Tennis Center.

Former French Open runner-up Sara Errani is the top seed this year at New Haven.
