SAN DIEGO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Marlon Byrd, Ike Davis and Daniel Murphy all homered Friday, powering the New York Mets past San Diego 5-2.

Those home runs came during the third and fourth innings and brought the Mets their fourth victory in seven games.

New York already owned a 1-0 lead before Byrd and Davis hit their solo homers in the third. Murphy then launched his 10th of the season in the fourth after pitcher Jonathon Niese had drawn a leadoff walk.

Niese (5-6) worked six innings to get the victory, allowing a run on six hits and striking out nine. After going five starts without a victory, Niese has won two in a row.

Ian Kennedy (4-9) was tagged with the loss, giving up all five New York runs on seven hits in 4 2/3. LaTroy Hawkins allowed up a leadoff single in the ninth but nothing more for his fourth save.
