NEW YORK, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Chris Nelson hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, Thursday in pacing the Los Angeles Angels to an 8-4 win over the New York Yankees.
The decision allowed the Angels to break a four-game losing streak and avoid a four-game sweep in New York. The Yankees saw a four-game winning streak end.
Nelson hit his first home run of the year in the fourth inning, one of the hits that handed the loss to Yankees starter Phil Hughes (4-12). Nelson had the grand slam in the eighth when the Angels scored five times, allowing Los Angeles to withstand a late Yankees rally.
C.J. Wilson (13-6) scattered 11 hits and a walk over 6 2/3 innings in getting the win. The lone run he allowed came in the third inning when Alfonso Soriano his hot streak going with an RBI single. Soriano went 4-for-5 Thursday after driving in a total of 13 runs Tuesday and Wednesday.

After Soriano tied the score, Erick Aybar doubled to open the Angels fourth, took third on a passed ball and scored on Hank Conger's sacrifice fly. Nelson followed with a drive to right-center for his first home run with the Angels.
Mike Trout opened the eighth with a double and New York got two out before intentionally walking Mark Trumbo and unintentionally walking Conger. Nelson followed with a shot into the seats beyond left field.
Grant Green doubled and Shuck singled in hits to finish the rally.
The Yankees scored three times in the ninth with Robinson Cano, who had three hits, knocking in the first run. Soriano and Cano scored on a Vernon Wells double for the others.
