MLB: Houston 2, Oakland 1 (11 innings)

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Carlos Corporan doubled home Jose Altuve in the 11th inning Wednesday to give Houston a 2-1 victory over Oakland.

After losing six in a row and 10 out of 11, the Astros have defeated the Athletics two straight nights.

The game had been tied since the seventh, an inning in which both teams scored, when Altuve reached on a one-out single in the 11th against Sean Doolittle (3-4). Corporan then hit Doolittle's first pitch to deep left-center. Altuve easily scored, but Corporan was thrown out trying to stretch the double into a triple.

That gave the win to Lucas Harrell (6-13), who retired the side in the 10th inning. Josh Fields allowed a leadoff double in the bottom of the 10th, but escaped further damage to earn his second save.

Oakland fell two games behind Texas in the race for the American League West title.
