MONTREAL, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Rafael Nadal required just 68 minutes Sunday to defeat Milos Raonic for his eighth tournament win of the year at the Rogers Cup.
Nadal captured the French Open in May and had played only one match since then before coming to Montreal. That match turned out to be a first-round loss at Wimbledon, which took some of the shine off his outstanding winter and spring campaign.
He won 43 out of 44 matches in capturing seven tournaments during the run that led to his French Open crown.
Nadal defeated Raonic 6-2, 6-2. Raonic was attempting to become the first Canadian to win in Montreal since Robert Bedard in 1958.
This was the fourth meeting between Nadal and Raonic, and Nadal has won them all. The most recent confrontation had come in the semifinals at Barcelona earlier this year.
