NEW YORK, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A $50,000 reward has been offered in the search for the vandals who defaced a statue of Jackie Robinson in Brooklyn, the Jackie Robinson Foundation said.
Racist graffiti was painted on the statue of the pioneering and beloved ballplayer who broke baseball's color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The Jackie Robinson Foundation said the reward fund was bolstered by $20,000 from an anonymous donor and $10,000 from the New York Daily News.
The statue, which also includes Dodgers legend Pee Wee Reese, is located in a park in the Coney Island area of Brooklyn, but surveillance video yielded no clues as to the identity of the vandals.
New York police have been asking every person they detain if they have any knowledge of the incident, the Daily News said.
