MLB: Detroit 9, New York Yankees 3

NEW YORK, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Torii Hunter homered and drove in four runs Saturday, helping power the Detroit Tigers to a 9-3 spanking of the New York Yankees.

Hunter finished 3-for-4 with a three-run blast and a sacrifice fly while Miguel Cabrera (3-for-5) bashed his 35th homer of the year and Austin Jackson (2-for-4, three runs scored) also went deep for Detroit, which banged out 17 hits en route to the win.

Don Kelly added three hits, including a two-run single, as the American League Central-leading Tigers bounced back from a 4-3, 10-inning loss in Friday's three-game series opener.

Anibal Sanchez (10-7) notched his third win in four starts, allowing two runs on four hits over seven innings. The right-hander walked one and struck out eight.

New York's Phil Hughes (4-11) was roughed up for four runs on seven hits, lasting just 4 1/3 innings.

Lyle Overbay smacked a two-run homer and finished with all three RBI for the Yankees.
