Rockets' Terrance Jones released from Portland jail

PORTLAND, Ore., July 31 (UPI) -- Houston forward Terrence Jones was freed from a Portland, Ore., jail Wednesday after being arrested for allegedly attacking a homeless man, authorities said.

Jones was locked up in the wee hours of Wednesday after a police sergeant allegedly saw the Rockets player stomp on the sleeping man's legs on a street in Portland's popular Old Town district.

Multnomah County jail records said Jones was locked up for about 3 hours before being released on his own recognizance pending a court hearing on a charge of harassment, The (Portland) Oregonian said.

Jones, a native of Portland, was with a group of people who left an Old Town nightclub at 2 a.m. PDT. Wednesday. The arresting officer said he observed Jones approach two transients sleeping in a doorway.

"Jones yelled, 'Wake up,' then raised his leg and stomped down on one of the man's legs," the Portland Police Bureau said in a written statement.

Police said the alleged victim did not require medical treatment.
