SAN DIEGO, July 31 (UPI) -- Homer Bailey fired 8 1/3 innings of one-run ball Wednesday, boosting the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-1 victory over San Diego.
Bailey (6-10) allowed six hits, didn't issue a walk and struck out seven in the dominating 116-pitch performance.

The right-hander took a shutout into the ninth before Chase Headley ended his day with an RBI double for San Diego's only run.
Brandon Phillips went 3-for-5 with a solo homer while Joey Votto contributed a two-run double as the Reds scored three unearned runs in the seventh to secure the triumph and avoid a three-game sweep.
San Diego's Eric Stults (8-10) was touched for four runs (one earned) on 10 hits in a 6 2/3-inning effort.
