ATLANTA, July 31 (UPI) -- Brian McCann's three-run homer was the centerpiece of a seven-run third inning Wednesday that allowed Atlanta to coast past Colorado 9-0.

Atlanta's lead in the National League East heading into August grew to 11 1/2 games. It was the Braves' sixth straight victory.

The first six Atlanta batters reached base in the third against Tyler Chatwood (7-4) with Freddie Freeman and Evan Gattis both driving in a run with a single. Freeman and Gattis then scored in front of McCann when he hit his 15th home run of the season.

Mike Minor and Luis Ayala combined on a five-hit shutout. Minor (11-5) gave up two of the hits and struck out six without a walk while working seven innings. He has won three of his last four starts.
