ANAHEIM, Calif., July 28 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a foot injury, the team said Sunday.

Pujols, batting .258 with 17 homers and 64 RBI in 99 games for the Angels this season, was found to have sustained a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his left foot, the club said.

The slugger came out of Saturday's game after the nagging foot injury became unmanageable, and a subsequent evaluable revealed the muscle tear.

His placement on the 15-day disabled list was made retroactive to July 27.

Los Angeles recalled outfielder Kole Calhoun from Class AAA Salt Lake to take Pujols' roster spot.
