NEW YORK, July 23 (UPI) -- Carlos Torres notched his first victory as a Met Tuesday, tossing six innings of one-run ball in New York's 4-1 decision over Atlanta.

Torres (1-1), a 30-year-old converted reliever formerly with the Colorado Rockies, surrendered seven hits, walked two and struck out six en route to the victory.

The right-hander also delivered a run-scoring single in the third that forged a 1-1 tie.

After the Mets scored three times in the sixth to grab the lead, David Aardsma, Scott Rice and LaTroy Hawkins combined for two innings of scoreless relief and Bobby Parnell hurled a 1-2-3 ninth for his 19th save.

Ike Davis, John Buck and Juan Lagares each drove in a run for New York, which bounced back from a 2-1 defeat in Monday's four-game series opener.

Kris Medlen (6-10) absorbed the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 frames.

Andrelton Simmons homered for National League East-leading Atlanta.
