UMAG, Croatia, July 22 (UPI) -- Thiemo de Bakker and Leonardo Mayer posted first-round wins Monday at the Croatia Open tennis tournament.
Mayer defeated Albert Ramos 6-1, 6-3 in just more than an hour. Mayer dropped just seven points over eight games serving for a very healthy 82 percent win rate while serving.
De Bakker was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Dmitry Tursunov, saving seven of the eight break points he faced. He ended up with four breaks. He had one break in the second set.
Tursunov had six break opportunities in the second set but failed to convert any of them.
De Bakker heads into the second round against third-seeded Fabio Fognini, who has won an ATP tournament each of the last two weeks. Fognini, like the other top four seeds, had a first-round bye.
