Chicago Cubs send Matt Garza to Texas Rangers for four players

CHICAGO, July 22 (UPI) -- The Chicago Cubs have traded pitcher Matt Garza to the Texas Rangers for four prospects, the team confirmed to the Chicago Tribune Monday.

The newspaper, citing an unnamed team official, reported Garza was shipped to Texas for infielder Mike Olt, pitchers C.J. Edwards and Justin Grimm and a player to be named later.

Garza, pitching in his third season for the Cubs, has compiled a 6-1 mark with a 3.17 earned run average in 11 starts since returning from a strained lateral muscle that delayed his season debut.

The right-hander has won each of his last five starts and should provide a major boost for the Rangers, who trail American League West-leading Oakland by three games.

The key acquisition for the Cubs is Edwards, who has compiled a 8-2 record a 1.83 ERA with 122 strikeouts over 93 1/3 innings at Class A Hickory.

Olt, meanwhile, has batted just .213 with 11 home runs for Class AAA Round Rock, while Grimm has gone 7-7 with a 6.37 ERA in 17 starts for Texas this season.
