Summerhays leads rain-suspended PGA Tour event

MADISON, Miss., July 18 (UPI) -- Daniel Summerhays equaled his low round of the year Thursday to grab a three-shot lead at the weather-marred Sanderson Farms Championship.

Thunderstorms rolled over the Annandale Golf Club during the afternoon, forcing a suspension of play. None of the afternoon starters was able to complete the opening round and the final threesome of the day could not even get started.

Summerhays, with a morning tee time, eagled his ninth hole of the day and shot a 63 for the second time in his last three rounds.

He also had a 63 last week during the third round of the John Deere Classic, where he finished one shot out of a three-way playoff eventually won by Jordan Spieth. Summerhays is still looking for his first PGA Tour victory.

Will Claxton, Michael Bradley and Jonathan Randolph all posted a 6-under66 to tie for second place. Bill Lunde, Dicky Pride, Skip Kendall, Peter Lonard, D.J. Trahan, Chad Campbell and Donald Constable were all at 67.

Among those who were unable to finish, Kevin Kisner had the best round in the works when play was suspended. He was 4-under through just six holes.
