First-round NBA draft pick has ankle surgery

July 16, 2013 at 10:26 PM   |   Comments

DALLAS, July 16 (UPI) -- The Dallas Mavericks announced Tuesday first-round draft Shane Larkin had undergone surgery to repair a fractured right ankle.

Larkin, who played guard for two seasons at the University of Miami, was the 18th choice in last month's draft.

He broke the ankle while taking part in a summer-league practice last Friday. Larkin is expected to take three months to recover.

Larkin helped Miami grab the ACC championship last season, after which the Hurricanes reached the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
