Broncos suspend two front office staff members

July 15, 2013 at 9:14 PM   |   Comments

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., July 15 (UPI) -- Denver Broncos Vice President John Elway announced Monday two members of the team's front office had been suspended following recent drunken driving arrests.

"It's particularly disappointing that two members of my staff acted so irresponsibly," Elway said in a statement released by the team. "Simply put, it's unacceptable and inexcusable."

Director of Pro Personnel Tom Heckert was suspended for a month without pay for his arrest on June 11. Director of Player Personnel Matt Russell, who was arrested on July 6, was given an indefinite suspension.

Both suspensions became effective Monday.

"While Matt and Tom have apologized and taken accountability, it's most important they take advantage of whatever help they need," Elway said. "We will learn from this and take the necessary action as we move forward in a positive way."
