LOUDON, N.H., July 14 (UPI) -- Brian Vickers passed Tony Stewart with 16 laps left and held on for his first victory since 2009, claiming Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup event in New Hampshire.

The part-time driver Michael Waltrip Racing first outpaced Stewart and then pulled ahead of the field during a two-lap overtime finish as Stewart ran out of fuel.

Vickers -- who shares time Mark Martin and Michael Waltrip in the No. 55 Toyota -- beat Kyle Busch to the finish line by 0.58 seconds, logging his first triumph since August 2009 at Michigan.

He is currently a full-time driver on NASCAR's Nationwide Series circuit.

Jeff Burton claimed third place, followed by defending Sprint Cup champion and New Hampshire pole-sitter Brad Keselowski.

Aric Almirola rounded out the Top 5.
