Rain washes out both Newport semifinal matches

NEWPORT, R.I., July 13 (UPI) -- Persistent rain Saturday forced the postponement of both semifinal matches at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.

The heavy rains came as Nicolas Mahut and Michael Russell were playing in the initial game of the day's first scheduled semifinal on the grass courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I.

Officials said their match would resume Sunday at 10 a.m. EDT Sunday, while the second semifinal pitting two-time defending champion John Isner and Lleyton Hewitt would be played concurrently on another court.

Weather permitting, the final will played as scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday.
