Kohlschreiber, Fognini both sharp in Mercedes semifinals

STUTTGART, Germany, July 13 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber topped Victor Hanescu Saturday to win a spot in the finals of the Mercedes Cup in his homeland of Germany.

Kohlschreiber beat the Romanian 6-3, 6-3 for a berth in Sunday's title match against fifth-seeded Fabio Fognini of Italy.


Fognini spent 58 minutes beating Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain 6-1, 6-3 in the first semi of the day.

Kohlschreiber, who fired two aces and won 75 percent of his first-serve points, will try for his first title of the year against an opponent he has not beaten in two meetings.
