SAINT-MALO, France, July 9 (UPI) -- Marcel Kittel on Tuesday won his second stage of the 2013 Tour de France but Chris Froome remains the overall leader.
Kittel, who won the Tour's opening stage June 29, topped Andre Greipel, who'd won the July 4 stage, by less than a cycle length to complete the 122.4-mile run from Saint-Gildas-des-Bois to Saint-Malo in northwestern France.
Kittel's time was 4 hours, 53 minutes, 23 seconds. Greipel was given the same finishing time. Mark Cavendish was third, despite bumping another rider near the end of Tuesday's race. Peter Sagan came in fourth and William Bonnet took fifth.
Froome ended up 24th Tuesday but owns an 85-second overall advantage over Alejandro Valverde. Bauke Mollema, 1 minute, 44 seconds back of Froome, is third overall with Laurens Ten Dam in fourth, 1:50 off the pace.
Roman Kreuziger is listed sixth, 1:51 off the pace. Alberto Contador, who won the Tour de France in 2010 but had the title stripped for doping, is sixth, also 1:51 back.
The riders have an individual time trial Wednesday, covering 20.5 miles from Avranches to Mont-Saint-Michel.
