MLB: Oakland 1, Chicago Cubs 0

OAKLAND, Calif., July 4 (UPI) -- Dan Straily pitched seven innings of one-hit, shutout baseball Thursday and Derek Norris scored the only run in the Oakland A's 1-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Straily (5-2) struck out six and walked three. Ryan Cook pitched one inning of no-hit relief and Grant Balfour picked up his 21st save for Oakland.

Cubs starter Travis Wood pitched six shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk and striking out five.

Matt Guerrier (2-4) took the loss in relief. He gave up a two-out walk in the seventh to Derek Norris, who took third on a single by Seth Smith and then scored on a passed ball.

The Cubs had two runners on base in the ninth but failed to score.
