OAKLAND, Calif., July 4 (UPI) -- Matt Garza outdueled Bartolo Colon by allowing four hits over eight innings Wednesday, propelling the Chicago Cubs to a 3-1 win over Oakland.

Garza (4-1), the subject of trade rumors, gave up a fourth-inning home run to Brandon Moss while handing the Athletics their second loss in seven games.

Kevin Gregg walked one and struck out two in the ninth for his 14th save.

Alfonso Soriano drove in Chicago's first run with a single in the opening inning, Luis Valbuena hit a solo homer in the third and Brian Bogusevic had an RBI double in the eighth.

Colon (11-3) had a career-best, nine-game winning streak halted. He gave up two runs on nine hits in seven innings.
