July 3, 2013 at 12:26 AM

MINNEAPOLIS, July 3 (UPI) -- Phil Hughes held Minnesota to one run in seven innings Tuesday to carry the New York Yankees to a 7-3 win over the Twins.

The victory ended a three-game New York losing streak and marked the second consecutive solid start for Hughes (4-7), who allowed one run on six hits and struck out three in seven innings of work.

Robinson Cano and Alberto Gonzalez both drove in three runs for New York. Cano cracked a three-run home run in the seventh inning off Anthony Swarzak.

Swarzak worked in relief of starter Samuel Deduno (4-3), who took the loss by giving up three runs on five hits over six innings.

Minnesota scored two of its three runs in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double by Brian Dozier.
