World No. 1 Inbee Park rolls to historic win at U.S. Women's Open

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y., June 30 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Inbee Park claimed a third straight major LPGA Tour tournament Sunday, carding a 2-over-par 74 to post a four-stroke win at the U.S. Women's Open.

With the convincing victory, the 24-year-old Park became only the second women's professional golfer to take each of the first three major tournaments in a single season, joining the legendary Babe Zaharias in that regard.

Park earned her fourth career major victory overall -- she also won the 2008 U.S. Women's Open -- while racking up a third consecutive win and sixth of 2013.

The South Korean also became only the fourth LPGA competitor to take three majors in a single year, and will seek to become only golfer -- male or female -- to win four in a year at the Women's British Open in August.

She finished at 8-under-par 280, four shots ahead of I.K. Kim, who also shot a 74 Sunday.

So Yeon Ryu (72) claimed sole possession of third place at minus-1.

Sharing fourth place at 1-over were Paula Creamer (72), Angela Stanford (74) and Jodi Ewart Shadoff (76).
