WASHINGTON, June 29 (UPI) -- Camilo Sanvezzo logged the game's only goal on a 48th-minute penalty kick Saturday, lifting the Vancouver Whitecaps over D.C. United 1-0.

Sanvezzo was awarded a penalty kick after United goalkeeper Bill Hamid was whistled for tripping up the oncoming Matt Watson.

The Brazilian didn't miss, putting a shot past Hamid for his ninth goal of the season as Vancouver (7-5-4) improved to 5-1-1 in its last seven matches.

United, meanwhile, fell to 2-12-3.
