Los Angeles seized control by scoring five times during the sixth and seven innings. The Angels have defeated the Tigers in back-to-back contests after having lost three in a row.
Aybar's third home run of the season gave the Angels a 4-3 lead in the sixth and that advantage grew in the seventh thanks in part to an RBI double from Trout.
Trout also hit a two-run shot in the third.
Billy Buckner was called on to make the start and he gave up three runs on seven hits in three innings.
Dane De La Rosa (2-1) relieved Buckner and wound up picking up the win by limiting the Tigers to a hit in two frames. It was De La Rosa's second major league win in 45 relief appearances scattered over three seasons.
Ernesto Frieri collected his 18th save by working the ninth. The loss went to Jose Alvarez (1-1), who surrendered seven hits and four runs in 5 2/3.
