NEW YORK, June 25 (UPI) -- The NBA announced Tuesday that it had scheduled 2013-14 regular-season games in Mexico City and London.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are to play the San Antonio Spurs Dec. 4 in Mexico City while the Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets are scheduled for a Jan. 16 game in London. The Atlanta-Brooklyn game is part of the NBA Global Games London 2014 promotion.

It is the first time the league has scheduled more than one regular-season game outside the United States and Canada in the same season.

"With the addition of regular-season games in London and Mexico City, we will play one of the most comprehensive international games schedules in our history next season," NBA Commissioner David Stern said. "Through these games, we will bring the NBA experience to more fans and provide showcases for basketball and the extraordinary talent and athleticism of our players."

The NBA previously announced that pre-season games this year would be played in Brazil, China, England, the Philippines, Spain, Taiwan and Turkey.
