SONOMA, Calif., June 23 (UPI) -- Martin Truex Jr. snared his first Sprint Cup series win since 2007 Sunday, cruising to an 8.3-second victory at Sonoma Raceway.

Truex finished well ahead of Jeff Gordon to claim the Toyota/Save Mart 350 -- his first triumph in 218 races and first since June 2007 at Dover International Speedway.

The Dover race was also his only other victory on the premier NASCAR circuit. In between, the Michael Waltrip Racing driver has compiled six runner-up accolades.

Claiming third was Carl Edwards. Kurt Busch and Clint Bowyer rounded out the Top 5.
