Huff, 78, had limited his workload to mainly home games last season and will appear occasionally on home pre-game shows this season.
"He has had a very long run," said Chuck Sapienza, vice president of the company that owns ESPN980. "People don't understand the strain and rigor of a long broadcast season."
Huff has been part of the Redskins organization since he joined the team as a player in 1964, after playing for the New York Giants from 1956-63.
The Washington Post said Saturday Huff's glory days in the broadcast booth came when he was teamed with former quarterback Sonny Jurgensen and Frank Herzog.
The lineup for the coming season will have Jurgensen handling analysis, Larry Michael calling play-by-play and Rick Walker reporting from the sidelines.
