WASHINGTON, June 22 (UPI) -- Chris Pontius scored on an early penalty kick Saturday and D.C. United snapped a club-record 13-game winless streak with a 1-0 win over San Jose.

In the 10th minute, Chris Korb was tripped up in the box by defender Justin Morrow and Pontius got a low shot past San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch.

D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid made a leaping snag of a Conor Shanosky shot in the 61st minute en route to his fourth shutout of the season as United (2-11-3) held on to post just their second win of the season.

San Jose (4-7-6), playing without leading scorer Chris Wondolowski and forward Steven Lenhart, went without a win for the fifth time in six contests.
