S'HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, June 22 (UPI) -- Simona Halep, who won her first WTA title a week ago, defeated Kirsten Flipkens in straight sets Saturday and won the Topshelf Open in the Netherlands.

Halep had lost her first three tries in WTA finals going into the Nuremberger Versicherungscup last week in Germany but she beat Andrea Petkovic 6-3, 6-3 to earn her first championship. She backed that up with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Flipkens Saturday at the Topshelf. Halep has won 16 of her last 18 matches.

Halep piled up five breaks against Flipkens. She went 3-for-3 in break opportunities in the second set in wrapping up the championship.

Halep ousted three of the top four seeds en route to the title, beating No. 1-seeded Roberta Vinci in the second round and third-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro in the semis before winning over Flipkens, the No. 4 seed, in the championship match.

Halep collected about $42,500 along with the title, while Flipkens, who fell to 1-1 in finals appearances, won about $21,300.
