EASTBOURNE, England, June 17 (UPI) -- Sixth-seeded Maria Kirilenko moved on with victory but No. 7 Ana Ivanovic suffered a first-round upset Monday at the grass-court Aegon International.

Russia's Kirilenko needed a first-set tiebreaker but then breezed over Serb Bojana Jovanovski 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

Serbia's Ivanovic, however, wasn't as lucky, falling to Russian Elena Vesnina 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 at Devonshire Park in Eastbourne, England.

Other Day 1 winners Monday included Britain's Heather Watson, 2011 Eastbourne champion Marion Bartoli of France and Belgian Yanina Wickmayer.
