Chad Johnson out of jail

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 17 (UPI) -- Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson was released from a Florida jail Monday after apologizing for slapping his attorney's buttocks in court.

Johnson had been sent to the slammer for 30 days but was let out early after expressing remorse to Broward County Circuit Judge Kathleen McHugh.

"I had a lot of time to reflect, a lot of time to think where I've been, where I'm at now, where I'm going," Johnson told reporters afterward. "I have to make my next move my best move.

"A lot of people have tried to get me to slow down in life, coaches, agent, lawyer. There was one person that was able to do it and that was my judge, Ms. McHugh."

Johnson had been in court last week for violating terms of his probation. He had been arrested last August on a misdemeanor after allegedly head-butting his wife, Evelyn Lozada, during an argument.

Johnson, 35, has 766 career catches for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns while playing for Miami, New England and Cincinnati.
