COMMERCE CITY, Colo., June 16 (UPI) -- Steven Lenhart scored his first goal of the season in the 11th minute Saturday and the San Jose Earthquakes held off Colorado 2-1.

Lenhart tallied off a header pass from Alan Gordon and fired it over the outstretched hands of Rapids goalkeeper Clint Irwin to give San Jose (4-6-6) a lead in its first game under new Coach Mark Watson.

Sam Cronin doubled the advantage in the 52nd when he collected Rafael Baca's through ball and scored on a breakaway.

The Rapids (5-5-5) got a goal on a Nathan Sturgis header in the 67th despite being a man down after Atiba Harris was handed a red card for a violent tackle on Alan Gordon in the 18th minute.
