Dodgers, Diamondbacks to open 2014 in Australia

SYDNEY, June 12 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks will open the 2014 regular season in Australia, New South Wales' premier announced in Sydney Thursday.

Barry O'Farrell, premier of New South Wales, announced at a news conference the Dodgers and Diamondbacks will play games on both March 22 and 23 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Those teams were involved in a benches-clearing melee Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Major League Baseball previously opened seasons in Monterrey, Mexico (1999), Tokyo (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012) and San Juan, Puerto Rico (2001).
