BALTIMORE, June 11 (UPI) -- Nick Markakis drove in the go-ahead runs and Miguel Gonzalez hurled eight dominant innings Tuesday in Baltimore's 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

With the game tied 1-1 in the seventh, Danny Valencia, Steve Pearce and Ryan Flaherty collected consecutive infield singles with two outs, loading the bases to chase Angels starter Jason Vargas.

Scott Downs came in to pitch and Markakis greeted him by serving a clean single into center field, plating Valencia and Pearce with the go ahead runs.

Gonzalez (4-2) tamed Los Angeles on one run over four hits, yielding just one walk while striking out seven in winning a second straight start.

Jim Johnson racked up his 23rd save despite allowing a run in the ninth as the Orioles clinched their three-game series and improved to 11-5 against American League West teams this season.

Vargas (5-4) was reached for three runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 frames.

Mike Trout socked a solo homer for the Angels, who dropped an eighth in 10 games.
