SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 11 (UPI) -- A construction worker was found dead Tuesday at the bottom of an elevator shaft at the San Francisco 49ers' new stadium being built in Santa Clara, Calif.
"The 49ers organization was deeply saddened to learn this morning of the news at the construction site," the team said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers affected by this tragedy. The 49ers family has lost a teammate today."

The accident happened just before 7 a.m. PDT.
The $1.3 billion Levi's Stadium is slated to open in 2014 and host the Super Bowl in 2016.
