DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., June 10 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Serena Williams has put greater distance between herself and other competitors in the women's tennis rankings.

Williams completed a remarkable run through the French Open with a straight-set win Saturday in the final against defending champion Maria Sharapova for her second title at Roland Garros. The first was in 2002.

Williams lost one set and just 29 games in the tournament. Eight of those were in the final to Sharapova and 10 came in the quarterfinals against Svetlana Kuznetsova leaving 11 lost games over the other five rounds.

The win allowed Williams to complete a double career Grand Slam. She's won each major tournament at least twice, a feat accomplished previously by only Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert and Steffi Graf.

Williams entered the tournament with a sizeable 1,605-point lead in the rankings but is now up by 3,990.

Sharapova beat Victoria Azarenka in the semifinals but still drops behind her in the rankings, falling to third with Azarenka in second. Angelique Kerber is seventh, swapping places with No. 8 Petra Kvictova while Caroline Wozniacki, who lost in the second round, moves up one place to ninth.

Maria Kirilenko, who advanced to the quarterfinals in the French Open, marks a career best with a No. 10 ranking this week.

Samantha Stosur, after a third-round loss to Jelena Jankovic, falls from ninth to 14th. She was a semifinalist in 2012.

1. Serena Williams, 13,615
