Reports: Quarterback Tim Tebow signs with Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, Mass., June 10 (UPI) -- Quarterback Tim Tebow has signed a contract with the New England Patriots, ESPN and NFL.com reported Monday.

ESPN reported an unnamed NFL source had confirmed Tebow -- released by the New York Jets in April after appearing in 12 games with the squad last season -- had inked a deal with the Patriots.

NFL.com reported the controversial signal-caller was expected at the Patriots' minicamp Tuesday after signing a "low-money deal."

Patriots Coach Bill Belichick was expected to announce Tebow's signing Tuesday at the opening of the minicamp, The Boston Globe reported.

The addition of Tebow to the Patriots would reunite him with Josh McDaniels, who as head coach of the Denver Broncos drafted him in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He is now New England's offensive coordinator.

Tebow, whose outspoken Christian beliefs have frequently ignited controversy, led the Broncos to the 2011 playoffs in his second season after taking over as starter in Week 4, but he was traded to the Jets for a pair of draft picks the following offseason.

With New York, Tebow struggled to earn a spot behind center despite the struggles of incumbent starter Mark Sanchez.
