MONTREAL, June 9 (UPI) -- Pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel dominated from start-to-finish Sunday and extended his Formula One points lead with a victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver finished 14.4 seconds ahead of second-place Fernando Alonso for his third win of the season and the 29th of his F1 career.

Vettel pitted only once during the race, taking his first title on the Canadian track two years after locking up while leading on the final lap of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

The three-time defending F1 champion improved his standings lead over Ferrari's Alonso to 36 points with the decision.

Three-time Canadian Grand Prix winner and defending champ Lewis Hamilton finished third, followed by Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg.
