ARDMORE, Pa., June 7 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott -- the top three ranked golfers -- will be in the same group for the first two rounds of next week's U.S. Open.
The group is to tee off at 1:14 p.m. Thursday on the first hole of the Merion Golf Club at Ardmore, Pa., near Philadelphia. The group has a 7:44 a.m. tee time from the 11th hole Friday.
Woods, the No.1-ranked golfer in the world, has four wins this year but is coming off a tie for 65th at the Memorial. Woods is a three-time U.S. Open champion, having won in 2000, 2002 and 2008. He hasn't won a major tournament since that 2008 victory.
McIlroy is ranked second but has only three Top 10 finishes in six tournaments in 2013. Scott has four Top 20 finishes, including a win at the Masters.
Immediately before that group are U.S. Open champions Jim Furyk (2003) and Graeme McDowell (2010) and 2007 Masters champion Zach Johnson
Defending U.S. Open winner on Webb Simpson is in a group with Ernie Els and U.S. Amateur champion Steven Fox that starts at No. 1 at 1:36 p.m. Thursday.
A group of Phil Mickelson, Keegan Bradley and Steve Stricker are second off the 11th tee Thursday morning.
