Rain wipes out NASCAR Sprint Cup qualifying

June 7, 2013 at 9:23 PM   |   Comments

POCONO, Pa., June 7 (UPI) -- Rains associated with Tropical Storm Andrea wiped out qualifying Friday for Sunday's scheduled Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway.

The starting grid for the 400-mile race was determined by current owner point standings and that means Jimmie Johnson will start on the pole. Carl Edwards will begin on the outside of the first row.

Clint Bowyer, Matt Kenseth and Kevin harvick were given the next three starting positions.

Forecasts call for a 60 percent chance of rain Saturday, which could wipe out practice. A 20 percent chance of thunderstorms was in the forecast for Sunday.
