Rain disrupts LPGA Championship

June 6, 2013 at 8:45 PM

PITTSFORD, N.Y., June 6 (UPI) -- Heavy morning rains Thursday forced tournament officials to postpone the scheduled opening round of the LPGA Championship.

Play never began at the Locust Hill Country Club course and the first round will now be held on Friday. The second round will be contested on Saturday and two rounds will be played Sunday.

"I think coming into the day everyone knew what the weather was going to be," said Stacy Lewis, the world's No. 2 ranked player. "We knew it was going to be a long day and a long week."

China's Shanshan Feng comes into the event as the defending champion.
