MLB: San Diego 6, Los Angeles Dodgers 2

LOS ANGELES, June 6 (UPI) -- Jason Marquis took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and the San Diego Padres avoided a three-game sweep Wednesday in a 6-2 defeat of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Marquis (7-2) improved to 6-0 over his last eight starts, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out six over 6 1/3 innings for San Diego.

Jedd Gyorko hit a solo homer and added two RBI for the Padres, who also got two RBI from Yasmani Grandal. Jesus Guzman and Will Venable each contributed their own RBI.

Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw (5-4) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits and struck out nine over six innings.

Scott Van Slyke hit a solo homer for Los Angeles and Adrian Gonzalez drove in a run in the loss.
