The IOC said in a release that the process begins with national organizing committees nominating a host city by Nov. 14. The process will conclude with an IOC vote July 31, 2015, to pick the host site.
The first phase of the process includes a questionnaire and review by the IOC of each city's potential to organize the 2022 Olympics. In the second phase, candidate cites are asked to detail their Olympic projects and prepare for visits by the IOC Evaluation Commission.
The IOC is also entertaining bids to host the third Winter Youth Olympics Games, which will be contested in 2020. That site will be determined in either May or June of 2015.
The XXII Winter Games are set for Feb. 7-23, 2014, in Sochi, Russia, with the Games in 2018 awarded to Pyeongchang, South Korea.
